Whether you call him a (slide) guitarist, multi-instrumentalist or singer/songwriter... critics, colleagues and friends agree: 'Jan van Bijnen is a very versatile professional'.
In a career that now spans three decades, Jan has accompanied or produced Dutch artists such as Rob de Nijs, Freek de Jonge, Claudia de Breij, Paul Haenen, Markowski and Alex Roeka or has done session work or arranged for them.
International acts such as Jim Keller, Markus Rill and Adam James Sorensen also know where to find Van Bijnen. Jan was a band member of Point Quiet for many years.
Jan plays guitar and Hammond organ in the band of the 19-year-old blues talent Nienke Dingemans.
With fellow 'multi-guy' Joost Verbraak he has the band 'Verbraak & van Bijnen'... their 3rd album 'Nightwalker' was released on vinyl in 2024.
As a singer/songwriter, Van Bijnen released the album 'Modest Man' plus a handful of singles.
At the moment, Jan is in the spotlight as guitarist/Hammond-organist of The Fortunate Sons, the audience favorite of the third season of the SBS6 program 'The Tribute – Battle of the Bands'.
After a completely sold-out theater tour, the band is now undertaking an equally sold-out club tour. In addition, Bospop, AFAS Live, Ziggo Dome, PaasPop, Ribs & Blues and the GelreDome were on the program.
Although originally a (slide) guitarist, the love for the Hammond organ was there at an early age. Jan enjoyed listening to his father's Peddlers LP. Billy Preston's organ work with the Rolling Stones (that solo in 'I Got The Blues') did the rest.
In the studio 'Verbraak & van Bijnen' Recordings, the producer duo makes extensive use of Hammond's XM-1 (with XMc-1) module.
The solo single 'Crave' is almost entirely carried by Van Bijnen's organ playing.
"Since 2024, Jan van Bijnen can call himself a 'member' of the 'Hammond/Suzuki Europe family'. Jan is a proud player of the Hammond XK-4."
